Darts History
In 1980, the HDA hosted Houston’s first large darts tournament, the $10,000 Houston Open.
With rapid league growth and large events in mind, the organization decided to incorporate. This was partly for liability concerns, as well as for tax purposes.
As part of the legal change, the logo was redesigned. Note the two Wired Out monthly newsletter covers, just 6 months apart.
The top logo was the original, in use since around 1974. It was associated with the organization’s original name, Houston Area Darts Association. However, as time went by, we all generally just called it the Houston Darts Association.
Incorporation in 1980 made that name official & legal.
